A Digital Strategist, writer, and storyteller.
The Department of Homeland Security
In year one of the Biden Administration I was ready to immediately get to work to undo some of the harm I had seen from the Trump Administration from 2016-2020. In the Spring of 2021 I was appointed as the Digital Director for the Department of Homeland Security, in charge of the digital strategy for both the DHS accounts as well as for Secretary Mayorkas. We had our work set out for us and we were excited to implement changes that would help the agency better serve Americans.
Rebrand and Design
While transitioning to a new Administration it was important that our Department reflected the new values of the new Administration - including the mission and the dedicated public servants that serve out that mission every single day. The #WeAreDHS campaign included a redesign of our social headers and how we communicated the mission online. This was meant to rebrand towards how the agency serves it's community and has resources available. This even included a social media campaign called "Dogs on Duty" where we highlighted the K9 force that works to serve the American people every day.

Meeting the Moment: Operation Allies Welcome
In 2021 the Department of Homeland Security became the leading agency for Operation Allies Welcome: the mission in resettling vulnerable Afghan refugees. With misinformation spiraling around online on who these refugees were, I worked to collaborate with the State Department, the White House, and the Department of Defense on a mass social media campaign and town hall debunking the myths around this mission. This included answering questions on the process of how the refugees will get here to what folks could do to help welcome them into their community. It ended up being a massive success with major leaders participating from all agencies working on the mission.

Rapid Response and Crisis Communications
When it comes to national security, every second counts. Being able to respond quickly and accurately makes the difference in keeping Americans safe in times of crisis; whether it was responding to a natural disaster with FEMA, a cyber security attack with CISA, or another national threat - I was one of the first to ensure we had something to say and a resource to provide in a timely manner.
